in the 1930's, roger babson, the founder of babson college, hired unemployed stonecutters to carve a series of "mottos" into the glacial erratic boulders strewn throughout the fields of dogtown, an abandoned farming settlement north of gloucester, massachusetts. the fields are now 3000 acres of mature beech and oak forest criss-crossed by a warren of trails. this is one of 24 inscribed boulders. i'll post the rest over the next few weeks.
